Sri Caitanya Prabhu was chanting loud. Sri Caitanya Prabhu ordered us to chant loud, and Srila Bhaktisiddanta Saraswati Thakur was chanting very loud, and explaining that by his loud chanting – he was delivering all the conditioned souls! There is also a testimony from a neighbour of Bhaktivinod Thakur – an elder gentleman who lived in Mayapur. There is a testimony that Bhaktivinod Thakur would chant very loud, so loud that the neighbours were also chanting when he was chanting!
So like that, Caitanya Mahaprabhu was chanting loud and the vaisnavas in the line of Caitanya Mahaprabhu are meant to chant loud, to deliver the conditioned souls! But we are making the point that we should also engage the mind in the chanting, and not just produce the sound. The mind must be very much involved in the chanting!
