(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2005)

I was reading some book about a psychologist who had interviewed some children. He was interviewing these different children, and some of them were 4 years old. So there was a 6 year old boy, a 4 year old girl, and a 10 year old girl. So he was interviewing the boy, and he asked the boy:

“What happens after you die?”

He said:

“Well…then you go to heaven….you can go to heaven!”

So then they asked him:

“What is it like there?”

“God is there”.

“What does he look like?”

“He has blue eyes and blonde hair!”

So, obviously he had been exposed to a certain concept, and he had developed this idea about God. Then the 4 year old girl – her parent’s were not religious at all! So they asked this girl – what did she think about God? Or does she believe in God or anything. She said:

“Well my parents do not believe in God, but I sometimes do!”

Then they asked:

“Like what?”

She said:

“ On the TV, Beaver “ (some sort of children’s series) “ Beaver sometimes speaks about God, which makes me think, that maybe there is a God, but my parents do not believe in God “.

So this is very interesting how you could see how this child started to think independently from the education of her parents….just a little stimulants from Beaver, and she started to think – ‘maybe’.

They asked the 10 year old girl the question:

“What would the world be like if you were not there?”

“Well it wouldn’t be the same”. She says. “Because there wouldn’t be a girl who was the younger sister of”. And then she named her…her brother. “ And there wouldn’t be a girl in the city orchestra who plays the viola”

She was speaking like that. Then they sort of asked her:

“What if there wouldn’t be any people at all?”

She said:

“Well that wouldn’t be very good, because people are important. Without people it wouldn’t all make sense”

“Why not?”

So she comes up with the idea, of why are there people.

“People are there to keep God company!”

She comes up with that! It is very interesting, because it is true, since we are the eternal companions of the Supreme Lord actually. She hit the nail on the head! She figured it out with her childish innocence, she actually figured out what it’s all about. That eternally we are meant to be in the company of the Supreme Lord!
