Prabhupda wanted a sankirtan party that would go around the world and would just perform harinama everywhere. That didn’t really happen although they performed a sankirtan party that went to India, which was a big hit! When they went to the Gujarat and started harinama, the people spontaneously became so excited that they started to decorate the street. The ladies started hanging colourful saris across the street, to decorate it.
The Mayor declared a public holiday. There were three days holiday declared by the Mayor and for three days the devotees were going all over having kirtan parties. The whole city of Gujarat got into it! They were reciprocating. This was like: Something far out; something amazing; something worth closing the city down for three days!
So in this way the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra (especially in kirtans) was the primary process!
