Everyone in the material world needs shelter; that is our nature. Living beings are always seeking for shelter… at night we stay in the house and we lock the door, just in case… ladies like men who are strong; it’s useful to have a tough guy walking next to you for protection! Protection is our need always. Some feel that we are protected by money; like you know, I have credit card so I am protected wherever I go. Then you go traveling and you are far away from home and your credit card gets stolen!?
Like that, we are always looking for some protection, protection from money, protection from so many things, from walls, locks, etc. but the ultimate protection is Krsna and devotees know that! It is Krsna who is our real protector. One can look for shelter in a relationship and relationships offer some shelter but never complete. There is no such thing as a relationship with any other human being where all one’s needs and all one’s desires will always be fulfilled! There are moments when it does not work at all… that is the nature of any relationship, with any place and any person.
The only relationship that really gets better all the time is our relationship with Krsna. Srila Prabhupada reminds us that we must invest in that relationship with Krsna. It is in that relationship that we find some shelter and gradually also in marriage, one may realize that when husband and wife together take shelter of Krsna then their marriage gets another dimension and then it leads to real progress.
