(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2 June 2012, Srimad Bhagavatam 5.13.5)
In response to a question that was inaudible in the recording
Let me just explain that it is good karma to take a birth in the so called first world countries – the wealthy countries of the world where life is sheltered and everything is well taken care of materially. This is the result of pious activities. So certainly, our relatives or the residents of those countries are enjoying the fruits of the previous pious activities that you have rightfully said so. But they are not very pious because at very pious, you get to the heavenly planets at least and it’s a lot better than the Netherlands – believe me!
When a family member is a devotee, we do suspect that there was at least a previous connection with devotional service. Right now, if that person is not open to devotional service then by engaging them unknowingly in some service, it will re-awaken that devotional service that was there from the past.
