(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2 January 2013, Durban South Africa, Srimad Bhagavatam 12.8.46)
People work! All these noises come from people about people trying to make money. That is what this noise is all about. The need to survive because life has become so complicated! Whereas life in the traditional village is basically simple. Prabhupada would say, ‘Four to six hours of work for one’s maintenance is enough.’
That’s in village life but not in the modern industrial society. Four to six hours and they laugh at you, ‘I can only work four to six hours, you know… part time!’
Part time – you can’t make enough to survive like that. Rather a husband and wife both work just to meet ends in so many cases and the kid goes to day care. So, in artificial society, we have to spend even more time in just dealing with the material energy for our sustenance. It is like that in this world; you have to work. No work then no food, it’s like that, starve! That’s the material world but that activity must be done in the mode of goodness. That activity must be done purely and correctly!
