Srila Bhaktisiddanta sometimes signed his letters “your ever well-wisher” and Prabhupada took that up and always signed his letters with these three words. And that is the position of the Spiritual Master! He is meant to be the ever well-wisher. That is quite a position because it sounds nice on paper… you are accepting this person as your disciple, benevolently in the role of a Spiritual Master as the ever well-wisher… but what if the disciple becomes a murderer, a brutal serial killer then what are you going to do!? He has committed some heinous crime and still, are you his well-wisher? But that’s what it means to be an EVER well-wisher! There is nothing a disciple can do that can really take away this merciful mood. That’s indeed quite a thing to say – your ever well-wisher! Spiritual masters may expect that sometimes disciples become involved in very undesirable activities.
