(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 20 March 2013, Cape Town, South Africa, Srimad Bhagavatam 8.12.7)
Some theologians have come up with a theory and said, “God was initially involved with the creation but not after it got out of control otherwise how could there be evil in the world when God is all good?”
Various religious traditions in the world see evil as an opposing force to God – an independent force of God. It’s like something I depicted – a boxing ring with God, the is invincible, the all mighty in one corner and the devil, the tricky one, in the other corner.
But that is not the situation. Srila Prabhupda explains, “Evil is the shadow side of the Supreme Lord. It is also the energy of the Supreme Lord and it is not independent of the Supreme Lord. It is also under the control of the Supreme Lord and fulfilling the purpose of the Supreme Lord. “
mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca (Bg 15.15).
Srila Prahbupada quotes this verse, that remembrance and forgetfulness come from the Supreme Lord. That is a fact.
sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo (Bg 15.15) ‘
I am in the heart of all living beings. Forgetfulness and remembrance comes from me. Those who desire to forget, I will fulfil that desire – I will help them to forget. Those who wish to forget my position and their own position as subservient – no problem, I will help them to forget it. Those who wish to be master, try to be a master but of course you know it doesn’t quite work.
