In the sky, there are many birds and all are sort of assigned on different levels. We see different birds here in Vrndavan. We see green parrots flying but also there are hawks flying on another level – they are flying much higher. Vultures can fly as high as eight miles so they say, which is very high; higher than Mount Everest. So in this way, different birds can fly on different levels in the sky. In the same way, different devotees are flying on different levels of realization in the sky of spiritual life.
Some of us are not flying at all. There are birds that just walk, as you know, penguins for example. But miracles happen and some birds that are not meant to fly, are now flying, like chickens. I kind of feel that many of us are like flying chickens – somehow, against the odds, unexpected, like totally not meant to be there – but are in the sky nonetheless, and not just a little bit of flapping but really off-the-ground.
